Playing At Gameshow Allstars

20th November 2025 - New Experience Number 26.

Playing At Gameshow Allstars was a hilariously brilliant afternoon with an opportunity to be a bit daft.

I’ve not yet been on a TV Gameshow as part of my challenge to try 52 new things in the year, (watch this space!) but this was a close contender!

If you’re wondering what Gameshow Allstars is like and whether you should go, then this post is for you!

What is Gameshow Allstars?

Gameshow Allstars is a Gameshow Activity Bar.

Like a regular bar, you can drink and you can eat. However the unique selling point, and by far the best part, is that you can pretend to be a contestant on some of TVs most popular game shows.

With seven mini games inspired by TV game shows, it’s a brilliantly different activity for families, friends, or even a date night.

Think Countdown, Wheel of fortune, Tipping Point, and Catchphrase, and you’ll get an idea of the sorts of games you can play. Although none of the games are actually named after the TV shows, but have been given very familiar sounding titles.

Gameshow Allstars are an experience provider who advertise with the brilliant Uniquely Local. Rachel from Uniquely Local was keen to visit to find out what it’s like, and I thought it looked like a brilliant new thing to try, so we decided to give it a go.

A Warm Welcome at Gameshow Allstars, Sheffield

It was a cold and quiet November afternoon in Sheffield. We climbed the stairs to the city centre venue and from the minute we stepped through the door, it was as though we’d walked into a gameshow!

Colourful lights flashed on the games, spotlights shone from the ceiling, and cardboard cut outs of celebrities were frequently dotted around.

We received a warm welcome from our host who explained how it all worked.

Rachel and I would be competing against each other on seven different games. We were each given what looked like a bank card, which was loaded up with our names. Whenever we played a game, we’d insert the card so the machine recognised who was playing, and it kept a tally of our score alongside our paper score sheet.

Before we got started, I paid a visit to the bar. There were some fantastically named pun-based cocktails, and as tempting as they were, this was a weekday afternoon and Rachel was driving, so we stuck to some non-alcoholic beers which were reasonably priced.

Our host introduced us to a couple of games at a time, giving us instructions on how to play them, and then it was over to us.

The Games - Playing At Gameshow Allstars

Spin and win on Winner's Wheel

Winner’s Wheel involved giving the wheel a good spin to find out how many points you are playing for, and answering general knowledge questions to win those points.

The rules are simple - say what you see

Say What You See was just like TV favourite Catchphrase. Trying to identify well known phrases from the images on the screen is frustratingly harder than it looks!

Drop the chips into the high scoring zones in Plink Plonk

Plink Plonk involved climbing the stairs to drop a chip into the huge play zone. The higher the section the number lands in, the higher the score.

Knock down the right cards to score points on Higher or Lower

Higher or Lower, was like Play Your Cards Right crossed with a coconut shy. Trying to knock over the high value cards with the small rubber balls in a limited time frame is a test of hand eye coordination that I certainly didn’t pass!

Make as many words as you can in Word Shuffle

Word Shuffle was a mental challenge akin to the conundrum on Countdown. Trying to make as many words as possible out of a series of random letters is much harder when you’re against the clock.

Fastest fingers first in The Lightning Round

The Lightning Round challenged us to put four possible answers into a correct order in a limited time. Under the watchful eye of a cardboard Chris Tarrant, it is a game of high pressure.

Don't hit the red buttons in Buzzer Beater

Buzzer Beater was like playing Whack-A-Mole. The physical game saw us leaping about trying to hit the green and blue buzzers which gave us points, and avoiding the red buzzers which took points away. To get some serious points this needs speed and precision, which I seemed to have left at home.

Crowning The Winner

After playing all seven games and engaging in a bit of friendly competition, it was time to add up our scores.

They were close. There were just a few points between us. Accepting the crown with a smile, Rachel was deservedly the winner.

It had been a fantastic afternoon doing something completely different.

A Sparkling, Show-Stopping Experience

We had so much fun playing at Gameshow Allstars and can highly recommend the experience.

Everything is so slick and the games are really easy to pick up. It is like being on a TV game show without the cameras. Although I wish I’d worn some sort of sequins and then I’d have really felt the part.

I loved the attention to detail on everything, it was so well thought out, and every game had a dedicated space to put your drink so you never had to worry about knocking it over during all the frivolity!

Who Is Gameshow Allstars For?

If you’re looking to do something on a night out with friends that’s a little bit different, or for somewhere unusual to go on a date, or perhaps for a corporate team building event that’s out of the ordinary, definitely check out Gameshow Allstars.

It’s been rated as Sheffield’s number 1 nightlife attraction, so you know you’re in for a good night.

It’s also a fabulous idea for a family afternoon, and definitely not as intense as a game of Monopoly can end up! Contestants aged 12 and over can play, but only until 9pm when the venue is for over 18s only.

However, you can play with less people, and if you have a bigger group they can easily cater for you too and it won’t impact the game play.

Experiences Embracing Play Are Not Just For Kids

Trying 52 new things a year has seen me try all sorts of activities, and I especially love when they give me an opportunity to play.

I don’t think we play enough as adults, yet research shows it brings us so many benefits; from fueling creativity to reducing stress and being an awesome mood booster.

Not all new experiences need to be challenging to be good for us. Any opportunity that allows us to relax, play, laugh and have fun is definitely worth indulging in.
