Tried Sleeping On A Satin Pillow Case
30th December 2023 - New Experience Number 45.
Bizarrely I’d only just been talking about sleeping on a satin pillow case with my hairdresser the week before. It wasn’t that I was considering trying one, it’s just we were chatting in general about what people use to care for their hair.
During my weekly shop in Lidl, I perused the middle aisle as usual to see if there were any treasures of new things I could try, and what should I spy, but a satin pillow case. In Lidl! Even better, it was reduced!
What I Thought Sleeping On A Satin Pillow Case Would Be Like
I was a bit apprehensive about trying this new thing.
It seemed equal parts fancy and weird. I was a little concerned that when I shared it on social media some pervs might chime in with some comments. Thankfully that didn’t happen.
I thought it would feel cold to lie on. I thought it might feel a bit slippy. I thought it was perhaps going to be a bit too strange that I’d find myself waking up as I turned over.
What It Was Actually Like
After the initial strange sensation as I lay my head down onto the pillow, it was really quite nice. It wasn’t cold. In fact it was a lovely temperature throughout the night.
It wasn’t slippery, although it did seem much easier to rotate. It felt a little bit luxurious. I’m not entirely sure why, maybe because it was different, but it felt smooth and comfortable.
I definitely had a good nights sleep, although I can’t guarantee that was entirely down to the pillow case.
The Benefits
Supposedly, there are numerous benefits to sleeping on one of these glossy pillow coverings;
- Better sleep, because the head can turn easily on the smooth material.
- Fewer wrinkles because satin doesn’t absorb moisture so helps to keep the skin hydrated.
- Less frizzing and breakage in the hair as there’s less friction from the satin.
- Good for acne as the smooth material doesn’t irritate the skin.
I’m not entirely sure that I noticed all of them, but my hair did seem a bit less nest-like the next morning.
If you want to find out more, take a look at the article, The Benefits of a Satin Pillow Case from the Sleep Foundation who are far more clued up on these sorts of things than I am.
Would I Be Sleeping On A Satin Pillow Case Again?
I’ve since slept on it several more times and have it in rotation as a regular pillow case. I couldn’t honestly say I have experienced all of the benefits that a satin pillow case can provide, but I do like the cool comfy feel of it, and generally sleep well with it underneath my head.
Want To Try It Yourself?
You should be able to find a satin pillow case in amongst regular pillowcases in many home ware stores.
You’re more likely to find a satin pillow case in a shop already selling home furnishings, but do keep your eyes peeled next time you’re in the supermarket!
You can of course also buy them on-line.
Cost Of Experience
Amazingly, I picked up this single satin pillowcase for under £2! It had originally been £5. Prices will vary and you can buy them from around £5 up to £21 and above.
Recommendations
If you are looking for something to potentially keep your skin hydrated, or to protect your hair, it’s definitely worth giving the satin pillowcase a try.
I won’t encourage any picture taking of this one, that might be a bit weird, but do let me know how you get on if you give it a go!
